I went back and read your review of Conspiracy. It reminded me of Harris' Fatherland. The last time a book brought me to tears was when I got to the passage and March was going through the documents with the dimensions of the camps. I felt a cloud of dread hanging over for the whole book, and to see the truth revealed in such simple bureaucratic detail while knowing the ramifications of what it meant was one of the most affecting literary experiences of my life. True horror.
Great novel. Been wanting to reread it. The atmosphere Harris creates is really incredible, especially doing it through shoe-leather archival detective work like you said. If you haven’t seen Conspiracy it’s well worth the 90 minutes.
A few years ago I showed it back-to-back with Valkyrie in class, a really good double feature—in one you get a glimpse of the Nazi machine in action, in the other the German resistance trying to use the machine against itself—but I decided I couldn’t afford that investment of potential instruction time. Have thought of restructuring the course to try it again someday, though.

It’s been nearly two decades since I’ve seen Conspiracy. I definitely need to revisit it.
